Spring has Sprung in Telluride... and at the Telluride Science Research Center
John Straub, President of TSRC, Kenneth Jordan, President-Elect, and Nana Naisbitt, Executive Director, hope you find our semi-annual newsletter about the TSRC community exciting and informative as we enter our 24th year at TSRC with the most workshops in our history (18) and an expected record number of participants (450).

New! The Peter Salamon Scholarship Fund for Young Scientists
TSRC has established a scholarship program for young scientists in the name of Peter Salamon, San Diego State University Professor, to honor his part in co-founding TSRC and fostering its growth since 1984. Beginning this year, TSRC will offer up to 16 scholarships of $125 each in the form of reduced registration fees for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists. We hope this scholarship will help preserve the original spirit of the TSRC workshops, bringing scientists of all levels and ages together in an informal setting conducive to inspired collaboration. Workshop leaders may contact Nana if they have eligible candidates.
New! Jack Simons' Heads “Telluride Summer School on Theoretical Chemistry”
Beginning in the summer of 2009, TSRC will host students and faculty in a weeklong “Telluride Summer School on Theoretical Chemistry.” Areas of study will include electronic structure, dynamics, and statistical mechanics (plus an application topic that will vary year to year). Jack has generously donated $150,000 of his own money to endow the school, and has secured additional funding from the Dreyfus Foundation for the first two Schools (2009 and 2011). TSRC is looking for funding to subsidize registration fees.
Mark Ratner Chosen as 2008 R. Stephen Berry Lecturer
The TSRC board unanimously selected Mark Ratner, distinguished professor in the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University, to give the 2008 Berry lecture on Tuesday, July 8th at the Telluride Conference Center in Mountain Village. Mark's talk, entitled: “Energy and Nanoscience: A Marriage of Convenience,” is part of the Pinhead Town Talk lecture series. Admission is free and open to the public.
Town Talks Receive $42,600 in Support
The Town of Mountain Village Homeowners Association (TMVOA) generously awarded TSRC a $42,600 grant in the form of cash and in-kind contributions for 12 Pinhead Town Talks in 2008. This generous grant enables TSRC to host the talks at the comfortable Conference Center with a cash bar, provide staff, tech support, video taping for local TV broadcast, webcasting, administration, PR, advertisements, and more.
Thank You to Steve & Carla Berry
With TSRC’s new IRS status as a charitable 501c3 non-profit, Steve and Carla Berry made a sizable and very generous contribution to TSRC. See below on how you can also support TSRC's mission.
